Following the rather huge success of SLS Brickell Hotel & Residences in downtown Miami comes a chic little sister up the street (well, not really that little)—the new SLS LUX Brickell from sbe and the Related Group. This new addition to the award-winning collection of SLS Hotels is an art-filled, VIP oasis sporting 450 residences and 70 luxury suites designed by Toronto-based interiors wizards, Yabu Pushelberg.
You can’t possibly miss this building: Designed by architecture firm Arquitectonica, the 57-story tower features a giant LED façade by Venezuelan lighting artist Ana Isabel Martinez.
A destination restaurant is de rigeur these days, and this one is a doozy—the Katsuya Brickell, headed up by master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi. Expect impeccable sushi and mouth-watering robatayaki barbecue dishes, which you can wash down with a flight of sake or something tasty from the Japanese whisky cart. Speaking of which, the luxurious S Bar is the spot for live jazz and light fare, gorgeously done up with vivid yellows and greens, dazzling murals and sumptuous, sculptural seating. It reeks of chic.
But the real kicker is the rooftop Altitude pool, which is actually two pools with the best city views in town, propped up by full-on serviced cabanas and lounge areas. This is also where they’ve decided to locate the tennis court—just don’t hit the ball over the edge or it will take all day to retrieve it. The fitness center is kitted out with personal trainers, yoga teachers and Pilates instructors, all available throughout the day if you can pry yourself away from the pool.
Pop into the Ciel Spa for a massage or a manicure before hopping into the big, fat Lincoln Navigator town car and off for a quick shop. Brickell is Miami’s newest up-and-coming shopping neighborhood, a cultural hotspot chocka-block with upscale malls, a ton of restaurants and spicy Latin-soaked nightlife. R&R, here you come!
