Vancouver’s downtown hotel scene has all the big names—Shangri-La, Fairmont, Rosewood, Westin—but there’s a new kid on the block that’s the talk of the town. A mainstay of the Central Business District since 1929, the Old Vancouver Stock Exchange building has been transformed into a multi-use building that includes the newly-opened EXchange Hotel Vancouver.

The historic building is the first Platinum LEED-certified heritage conversion in the city. The 31-story structure was re-designed by Switzerland-based Harry Gugger Studio with Vancouver-based Iredale Architecture, and includes a National Bank, Lindt boutique and office space. The Exchange building was awarded the 2017 American Architecture Prize for Heritage Architecture.

With 202 rooms and 16 penthouse suites on the building’s first 11 floors, this lifestyle hotel offers 24-hour Clefs D’Or concierge and doorman service, key-controlled guest floors, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, gym, meeting space and three soon-to-be-opened dining options: Hydra Estiatorio Mediterranean Restaurant, The Den at Hydra and Bar Hydra, which also has The Cabana, a semi-private dining room.

With views of the city and an abundance of natural light, the modern rooms feature caramel-toned wood furniture pieces, with navy as the complementary color for textiles, and bold patterned wallpaper and brass details on lamps and accent pieces. Superior rooms feature original wall murals.

Bathrooms have marble counters with a backlit mirror, marble-tiled walk-in shower, heated floors and L’Occitane bath products. Room amenities also include Illy coffee machines, complimentary digital newspapers and magazines via a Crave T-mini tablet (which also allows messaging to guest services and room service), 50” flat-screen TV and a Roxy voice-activated hotel assistant.

Groups will appreciate The Mezzanine on the fourth floor with private patio which can host 100 guests (seated) or 275 for a cocktail reception while VIP guests have access to The Dividend Penthouse and Suite Club Floor with private club lounge.

EXchange Hotel Vancouver is part of the Executive Hotels & Resorts group and a deluxe room with two queen beds starts at C$519.00 (US$394.00) a night.
